The UA Undergraduate Biology Research Program enables UA students to experience how research is done. As part of their program, they participate in an end of year conference where they highlight their research in poster sessions.
This year, in addition to the posters being the traditional big display boards with graphs, images and text explaining their research, they created videos.
The purpose of this was to give the students increased visibility and to highlight this exceptional opportunity that students at the UA have available to work side by side with researchers, for from 1-3 years, and contribute to the scientific publications describing the findings.
Eight video posters of the students can be viewed on the UA’s
YouTube channel. In addition to the student videos, the program's mentor, Dr. Johnny Fares, describes the program and the excellence demonstrated by these students. Dr. Fares describes the undergraduates as students with “…amazing energy and an amazing desire to learn,” and the program as one that “…helps them get to where they want to go.”
The videos were filmed and edited by OIA’s
Multimedia Solutions, a playlist was created on the UA YouTube channel for these videos. With the link available from YouTube for each video, students then shared them with friends and family through social media sites such as Facebook. High school students watching these videos on YouTube will see the UA as the college where they can get research experience that leads to medical school and careers in research.
This has proven to be a great opportunity for one of the UA's premier programs to feature its student's success.
