The University of Arizona Language Training Center’s Language Maintenance Program helps language professionals sustain and strengthen their proficiency between intensive training events. This year-long program includes 12 monthly modules featuring level-appropriate, authentic reading and listening materials across topics such as society, culture, politics, economics, geography, science, and military affairs. Activities reinforce vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, and summarization skills while helping participants establish consistent, long-term language-learning habits.
Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 8–10 hours per month, or about two hours per week, to completing asynchronous coursework and assignments. The program also includes an onboarding session, pre- and post-course assessments, instructor feedback, virtual office hours, and three scheduled live virtual check-ins. This flexible structure allows participants to maintain their language skills alongside professional responsibilities while preparing for future proficiency assessments and intensive training opportunities.
